Steeped in history, the town boomed back in the 19th century, thanks to industrial development. It made everything from crisps and carpets to shawls in the famous pattern. As such, there are loads of fantastic sandstone commercial buildings, many of which have been turned into residential flats.

After all, the demand for good housing in Paisley is strong. It's in a handy location, not far from Glasgow airport, which is just on the outskirts of the town. Both the M8 and M77 are nearby, and a drive into the city takes around half an hour. Fancy going to the coast? That'll take nearer 45 minutes. For commuters, a 10-20 train into Glasgow will be music to the ears.

Where should you look for a house in Paisley?

When you're house hunting in towns as large as Paisley, it can be tricky to know where to start. From townhouses and tenements to bungalows and new-builds, there's a range of properties available.

Key suburbs include Castlehead, the popular conservation area with loads of elegant Victorian homes. Castlehead isn't the only conservation area, though. Heading towards Barrhead, you'll find Thornly Park. Property here is varied in style, with plenty of choice. Plus, it's on the outskirts of the beautiful Gleniffer Braes. Nearby Glenburn is worth a search too.

Also south of Paisley, you'll find Foxbar. With its own schools and shops, but within easy reach of the town centre, it offers a great balance of convenience and quiet. As such, it's really popular with families. Other suburbs to focus your search around include Hunterhill, Dykebar and Ralston.
